Product Placement is an advertising technique used by companies to subtly promote their products through a non-traditional advertising technique, usually through appearances in film, television, or other media. In my opinion, this type of advertising is very successful and makes a lot of viewers want to buy their product. I notice this a lot in sports, since I played baseball for 14 years I notice how all my friends buy gear that all the baseball players are using on television. For example, if one of the baseball players are wearing under armor apparel and that player did really good that game, then most likely a viewer will notice that and want to buy the product. In my past experience, I was watching a baseball player on television who was really fast and he was wearing “Derek Jeter cleats”, so the next day I bought them because I thought the cleats made him run fast. Product Placement is a very creative technique to advertise, it could be as easy as putting your company’s brand on a shirt in a film.
I agree that product placement is a great way to advertise. It is a much more effective strategy then commercials or ads in a magazine or newspaper. Many companies send there clothing and shoes to famous people. These people are seen around wearing these name brand products. When the every day consumer catches a glimpse of the stars in these clothing it makes them want these items. They feel if they are wearing those items they will be rich and famous like the stars that wear those brands. This strategy is good because you can actually see what the product looks like on actual people.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you that this was a great way to advertise. I remember when I was watching Zombie Land. Woody Harrelsons character always talking about how he wanted to eat a twinkie since they were mostly all gone after the zombie outbreak. Throughout the whole movie you would always hear him talking about getting his hands on a twinkie. Little did I know this was a form of product placement because right after the movie ended, all my friends including myself wanted to go to walmart to eat a twinkie. I found that this was a very good way to advertise a product because i don't really like twinkies but after that movie i was craving it.
